Illustrative ultrasound examination of the thyroid gland.

Endocrinology

Specialist assessment of hormone findings and thyroid conditions. Tell us which results or referrals you already have.

Thyroid and hormonal concerns

Endocrinology addresses hormone disorders and conditions affecting endocrine glands. Common reasons for a visit include a thyroid finding, altered thyroid function or a review of ongoing treatment.

The doctor considers symptoms alongside laboratory results and previous care. Further blood tests or ultrasound may be recommended: blood tests assess thyroid function, while ultrasound assesses its structure. Findings guide treatment or monitoring; a nodule does not automatically require biopsy or surgery.

OpenMedical coordinates the booking and tells you which reports to bring. We check the relevant examinations, sampling instructions, costs and payment arrangements beforehand according to the reason for your visit.

What you can discuss with the specialist

Frequently asked questions

About the consultation and planning your visit.

Does a thyroid nodule mean cancer?+

Not automatically. The doctor assesses its ultrasound appearance, size and development, then recommends monitoring or further investigation.

Is ultrasound enough to assess the thyroid?+

Ultrasound assesses structure; blood tests assess function. Depending on the reason for the visit, one method or both may be needed.

Does every episode of fatigue or weight change need hormone tests?+

Not automatically. Both have many possible causes. A GP can assess them initially and recommend endocrinology when there is a specific concern.

Should I seek a review before pregnancy?+

Tell your doctor if you have a hormonal condition. They assess any review or treatment changes individually; mention planned pregnancy when booking.

How do I book and what are the visit requirements?+
