Neurology examination in progress

Neurology

Neurological examinations for headaches, dizziness, numbness in the limbs, and other nervous system issues, at a clinic in the OpenMedical network.

Nervous system examinations, including EMG and EEG

The neurologist first works out where the symptoms come from and whether the brain, spinal cord, nerve roots, or peripheral nerves are involved. Based on the findings, they recommend treatment, EMG or EEG testing, or referral for further assessment.

A consultation can help with recurring headaches and migraines, dizziness, numbness and weakness in the limbs, back pain radiating into the leg, sleep problems, memory and concentration issues, or symptoms that follow a head injury.

The partner clinic runs its own EMG and EEG, so the first visit and the testing that follows usually happen in one place. OpenMedical sends available reports and scans ahead of the visit, coordinates the appointment, and helps keep follow-up visits organised.

When to see a neurologist

A specialist review is worth arranging when symptoms persist, keep coming back, or get in the way of daily life.

  • Recurring or worsening headaches and migraines
  • Dizziness, balance problems, and fainting spells
  • Tingling, numbness, or weakness in the limbs
  • Sleep, memory, and concentration problems

What the examination can include

The scope depends on your symptoms and any results already on file.

  • A detailed history and a full neurological examination
  • A targeted examination of the complaint, with specialised neurological tests
  • EMG for suspected nerve or muscle involvement
  • EEG for altered consciousness, sleep disorders, and seizure-like episodes

Possible next steps

The treatment plan follows from the findings, how much they affect daily life, and your goals.

  • Treatment and lifestyle guidance
  • A nerve root block or other treatment given at the clinic
  • Physiotherapy or follow-up rehabilitation
  • Referral for imaging, or to a specialist centre, when medically necessary

Paperwork handled at the clinic

The neurologist also handles documentation you often need for reasons unrelated to treatment.

  • Medical fitness-to-drive assessment for a professional licence
  • Medical record extract for a commercial insurer
  • Medical record extract at your request

Neurology questions

Short answers about headaches, EMG and EEG preparation, and booking a neurologist.

When should I see a neurologist?+

Book an appointment if headaches, dizziness, tingling, or limb weakness keep coming back, get worse, or limit everyday activity. If speech, movement, or vision changes suddenly, or a severe headache comes on, treat it as an emergency and call 155 or 112.

Do I need a referral from my GP?+

It depends on how the visit is paid for, the clinic, and your health insurer. OpenMedical checks what paperwork is needed before booking.

What should I bring to the appointment?+

Bring previous medical reports, imaging results, a list of your medications, and a short note on when the symptoms started and what makes them better or worse.

What is an EMG and how do I prepare for it?+

EMG measures electrical activity in muscles and nerve fibres. Nerves are stimulated with small electrical pulses, and part of the test uses needle electrodes. Some patients find it uncomfortable, but it only takes a few minutes. Before the visit, do not put any cream on the area to be tested.

What is an EEG and how do I prepare for it?+

EEG records the brain’s electrical activity as a trace. The test does not hurt. The recording takes 20 minutes, and you need to stay as still as possible. Wash your hair beforehand and skip conditioner and styling products, and do not dye it right before the visit.

Can OpenMedical arrange neurology care in Prague?+

Yes. OpenMedical can coordinate an appointment at a partner clinic, send available records ahead, and help organise any follow-up examination or check-up.
