Vascular surgery consultation environment

Vascular surgery

Assessment and treatment planning for vascular and venous conditions at a clinic in the OpenMedical network, including surgical follow-up.

Gentle, outpatient treatment of varicose veins under local anaesthesia

For varicose vein treatment, vascular surgeons in our care network prefer minimally invasive methods that combine lasting clinical results with a clean aesthetic outcome. Sclerotherapy, laser ablation, and miniphlebectomy cover most cases, and for more complex situations the surgeon combines several methods together.

Procedures are performed on an outpatient basis under local anaesthesia, with no hospitalisation required. You go home the same day, often return to normal activities right away, and a sick leave is usually not needed.

The most common reasons people seek a vascular review are heavy legs, swelling, pain after long standing, itching skin, and spider veins. An early consultation with an ultrasound assessment makes it possible to clear the visible signs quickly and prevent complications from developing.

Initial vascular surgery consultation

At the first visit the surgeon clarifies the finding and puts together a treatment plan tailored to your situation.

  • Detailed history and symptom assessment
  • Ultrasound examination of the venous system
  • Clear explanation of the finding and proposed treatment
  • Selection of suitable compression stockings

Endovenous laser ablation (EVLA)

Modern varicose vein treatment using a latest-generation diode laser, performed under local anaesthesia on an outpatient basis.

  • Procedure takes 30 to 60 minutes depending on complexity
  • Performed under local anaesthesia to minimise discomfort
  • Outpatient procedure, you go home the same day
  • Low likelihood of complications
  • Final aesthetic result visible 2 to 6 months after surgery

Other minimally invasive methods

Depending on the type of finding, the surgeon uses other gentle techniques, which can be combined for more complex cases.

  • ClariVein method: outpatient procedure under local anaesthesia, takes around 20 minutes, with an immediate return to everyday activities
  • Miniphlebectomy: minimally invasive surgical removal of varicose veins under local anaesthesia, gentle on tissues with a short recovery
  • Sclerotherapy: a special solution and foam injected into the affected vein, suitable for varicose veins, spider veins, and small vascular lesions
  • For more complex cases, combining methods leads to better treatment outcomes

Care and recommendations after the procedure

A few simple rules after the procedure help the result hold up over time.

  • Wearing the prescribed compression stockings as instructed
  • Gradually increasing physical activity and walking more
  • Avoiding lifting weights over 10 kg and strenuous activity shortly after the procedure
  • Avoiding baths, sauna, and jacuzzi for the period set by the doctor, and avoiding overheating in the sun
  • A check-up with a phlebologist at least once a year
